Back in the Saddle

I am back in the crochet groove. I think that the end of last year burned me out!! I needed a break. Well, I have had that break and I am back in the saddle baby. Recently I finished a name doily and a purse that I am donating to a raffle for my niece's 4-H club. Now I have begun a purse for my mom. She liked the one I made for her for Christmas so much that she wants me to do one for her in a lighter color for Summer. Here's the thing. When I made her purse, I didn't write down what I did. Soooooo, I am using her other purse as a model and figuring it out as I go. Counting a row and then crocheting it. I am writing it down this time!! Also starting to think about fair entries. My husband says "I have that Best of Show award to defend". He is so competitive!! Ok, ok. I admit. I feel the same way kinda. Hey, who doesn't want to be a winner??? Until next time.

Been a while!!

Wow. This year has FLOWN by. Been so busy since the first of the year that my blog got put on the back burner. I haven't had a lot of orders yet this year which has been somewhat of a blessing. I have been concentrating more on my family, school, and my teaching. I have two new students. One of them is my niece. I am her crochet leader in 4-H. She is so excited about it and really is taking to it quickly. The other is my best friend. I am so excited about her progress. She is cruising right along on a lap throw she is making. I wish for her the peace, tranquility, and sense of creativity that crochet gives me.

As for upcoming projects:
I just got notice that the calender my first design is being published in is ready for print. It should be out in the stores in the summer. I have a purse I am crocheting for a charity auction. I am finishing up on a name doily that a customer ordered. I have another purse that someone has ordered I need to get started on. And then we get into preparing for the fair. Guess I need to kick it in to gear!!!

Happy New Year!!

It's 2005. A new year. Time for reflection over the past year and plans for the new one. A lot has happened with my family over the past year. We have moved twice, one of them being a 700 mile re-location. There has been a couple of career changes. Death of a grandparent. Birth of a great-niece. Serious illness of a parent. My oldest son's first permanent tooth and first day of Kindergarten. My husband's heart attack scare. The start of my crochet business. All in all, it's been a good year. It's amazing to think that on this day last year, neither my husband or I had a job and we were packing our stuff to travel 700 miles to move in with my parents. We have come a long way since then.

This coming year should be a continuation of the growth of my family. I am graduating with my BA in Accounting this year and plan on quickly putting it to good use. My husband has just started a new job a couple of weeks ago that he is really excited about. I think we are going to be OK. It's funny how life leads you through some pretty rough, windy, and overgrown paths, but we always seem to end up exactly where we need to be. Till next time....

Let the Celebration Begin!

Well, it's New Year's Eve. Everyone have plans? We actually do this year. First time since we have been married. Nothing big. No party. But we did hire a babysitter for tonight and are going to go out to eat and maybe a show or some shopping. It all depends on if we can get into the restaurant we have a gift certificate for. They aren't taking reservations sooooooo, we may not get in. Last time we went out without the kids was in July. I think we are entitled to a night out twice a year.

I have my niece's poncho ALMOST done. The crocheting part is done anyway. I just need to "assemble" it and add the fringe. The pattern can be found at http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art24740.asp. I could take a picture, but it sure wouldn't do it as much justice as this photo does. I did it in purple TLC Amore. It's really beutiful. Keeping my fingers crossed that she likes it.

Till next time....

New Year's Resolutions??

Well, ever the optimist here, I always make New Year's resolutions. Do I ever keep them? Well, maybe for a month or so. However, despite this seemingly futile exercise, I intend to make some New Year's resolutions this year. Of course, mine always seem to be major life changes instead of resolutions. But, anyway, here goes.

1. Quit Smoking. Yes, I am one of those dreadful smokers. Shhh, don't tell my Mom. I have quit many times over the years and ALWAYS, like the dumbass I am, started again. But I am GOING TO QUIT!

2. Lose Weight. Ok, here we go again. Been battling this bulge since the 3rd grade. Lose. Gain. Lose. Gain. SlimFast. Dexatrim. Weight Watchers. Jenny Craig. Physicians Weight Loss Clinic. Atkins. Cabbage Soup Diet. Fat Blockers. Chromium Picolinate. I have pretty much tried it all. But I HAVE to get this weight off. Can't keep up with my kids!!

3. Keep my house cleaner. No, I am in no way a domestic goddess. My house is utter chaos. At the moment, you can't walk through my kids room, there is laudry creeping into the hallway, and dirty dishes in the sink.

4. Become more organized. Well, that's pretty self explanitory.

5. Become more financially stable. Create a budget. Trace my expenditures. Create a savings plan. etc etc

Ok....well....those are my "goals". I told you they were a tall order. And now you probably know more about me than you cared to know. So on that note.....till next time.

Crochet Buddy Stardome

WOW! A crochet buddy of mine has experienced quite a bit of crochet fame lately. Not ONLY is there an article on her in her local paper, but she also was on TV! Check out her website and feel the passion that she has for this art. It truely is amazing!! http://gina_renay.blogs.com

As for me, I finished my slippers. Not really what I was hoping for, but they keep my feet warm. Working on my niece's poncho now. About 3/4 done. Woo hoo!! Ciao for now.

I'm Baaaaack

Well, the mad dash of the season is over. I got all my orders completed and on time. All my gifts were completed on time. Finished the last one while on a break at work on CHRISTMAS EVE!! Nothing like some last minute pressure. And my class is completed and school doesn't start again until January 3rd. Time for me to get caught up on blogging.

The bad thing about being so rushed with all my crocheting is that I didn't get any pics of my items. :-( A few of the things were repeats of other projects, but I had a hat that I had never done before that turned out FABULOUS. Or at least I thought so. You can ask Nurse Ratchet....she's the one who received it. lol I also did a pair of mittens for my other sister and I had never done a pair of mittens before. They turned out groovy also. And then there are the two purses that I designed. Bad part about those is that in addition to not getting pics, I didn't even write down what I did. I just picked up some yarn and hook and went to town. They were both similar, but not the same. I think I am going to try and still get pics of them since it was all family member gifts.

So what does crochetbella have planned now??? Well, since you asked...hehehe...I have four orders already for after the first of the year and a niece with a birthday in January that I am making a poncho for. I have also decided that I am going to make MYSELF something. First thing for me is going to be a pair of slippers. Next is going to be a sweater. Not a poncho gal here. My big apple shaped frame just looks even more big and round in a poncho. But I have me eye on this GORGEOUS sweater in the Interweave Press Crochet Magazine. More traditional in styling but it has an offset opening and a large collar. I think it will look great on me. I am going to do the slippers today. The sweater might get done by next winter....lol. Still trying to decide on the yarn. I want to make it special. Get some great yarn in the perfect color.

Oooh, one last thing, Santa Clause (my mother) bought me two of the crochet books I had on my wish list. Donna Kooler's Encyclopedia of Crochet and The Crochet Stitch Bible. I am in heaven! Fabulous books. I highly recommend them to anyone. Well, until next time.....
